As paragon, you might check every animal.
As renegade, you’ve got the option to first kill them and check later.
Searching on surface won’t give any results.
You’ll need to check the mine near one of the colonies (Eletania - 7).
While inside, go to the northeast side of the complex and search monkey in the corner.
It will drop the module.
On your way back, you’ll be attacked by geths.
After eliminating them, return to Normandy to complete the assignment.
