There are two ways of getting new team members.The first of them is recruiting characters during story missions.
it’s possible for you to then add the new character to the team or leave your party unchanged.

If you have a four-person team, you have to have every race on the team.

That means that you shouldn’t swap a bard for, say, a warrior.
The classes should be permanent.You should only change the skill branches you develop.
Don’t waste skill points for unlocking another skill tree.
Especially, when you have access to more advanced skills.
The rarer the item the bigger impact on stats.
That’s also reflected by the price of the items.
These can be accessed by unlocking special skills in the tree.
